When I was younger I used to wait anxiously for Boxing Day and go on a major shopping spree. I would battle the crowds at the mall and even on occasion wait in line to get into a much worshipped store. Those days are long gone. I would never dream of going near the mall on Boxing Day anymore. There is no way I would manouver our giant stroller among the crowds without running over toes and being glared at by other shoppers. The sales might be good but my sanity is more important to me these days!! I'll just have to go shopping when the hysteria has calmed down and just pick thru what is left over on the sales racks...
i can't imagine waiting in hour long line ups just to get that one major bargain...i heard there were serious lines at Coach in Yorkdale- as if the stuff there goes on sale enough to make the wait worth it!!
As it happens I still haven't made it out shopping and might manage to get out there come spring!!

I hear ya, Dina! I totally would never go boxing day shopping...mainly because I've always hated big crowds. I used to feel so clausterphobic shopping at the Eaton's Center, Yorkdale and Scarborough Town Center (on regular days)!! I don't know how I used to think that was "fun"! LOL! Guess I'm just getting old!
ReplyDeleteThat's why I love living across the road from a mall, I was out at 8:30 and home by 10:00...and of course I did not have to get up early, with Zoë I would have been anyways! Of course it is just The Promenade, but it is worth it for Old Navy alone...and with The Gap, Roots, Mexx, Jacob, Tristan, Suzy Shier, H&M, Lululemon, RW, Buffalo and Guess...Promende is getting to be a mall to contend with and was well worth the boxing day mayhem.
ReplyDeleteI would never even go to Yorkdale on Boxing day, but the Promenade early morning? No problem! I did not bring Zoë, but if I had it actually would have been okay...by the time I left it was just starting to actually feel a little crowded, and when we drove by at 3pm, cars were lined up to get in.
P.S. Since Coach never goes on sale except boxing day, and there is no Coach outlet in Canada, it is totally worth it for a die hard fan! If I didn't already have my quota of Coach bags met, I might even brave Yorkdale for Coach...more likely Sherway Gardens.
ReplyDeleteI never did do the boxing day shopping always waited till a few days later. The deals are great but most of the things that I had wanted were still on sale the next few days.
ReplyDeleteI was never into the name brands or any of that so I guess I never got the boxing day madness
D, check out Elie on my babies of 2006 post. I love that pic of him! Too cute! (or would you like me to post the pic you e-mailed to me? That's cute too!)
ReplyDeleteI'm am not into buying (I like looking) name brands myself (except handbags), half my wardrobe is from Supercenter and the other half is Old Navy Clearance rack..but money saved is money saved. For me, the big deal about boxing day isn't name brands, it is buying stuff I'd buy anyways, but for less. I have been wanting to get a new coat for Adam for months, and am glad I was able to get one that I liked and he liked for 60% off!! It was the last one in his size, so I was definately glad I went on Boxing day and didn't wait!! It was totally worth it, since I got a new haircut with the money I saved! Since I don't touch my credit card or savings anymore, it was definately worth it to get out and get the best pick of good deals on things we need. If I was into designer clothes, it would be even more worth it. The line-up at ROOTS was unreal...but I walked right on by.
ReplyDeleteyeah i guess this year i couldn't afford much stuff anyway so there was no point at all...i did get Gavin a couple of pairs of jeans at Old Navy but that was all. I think for people who are into electronics boxing day can be worth it...but just not for me :)
ReplyDeleteYes, I have heard electronics deals are amazing, but that is not for me either. Really, for me it was the Old Navy coat for Adam and the AE Bras (which were 30% off, and BIG bras are not cheap) that made it worth it!!!
